FACEBOOK GROUP POST: 1980'S NEW HAVEN ARTISTS UNITED-ONLINE ARCHIVE
Louisa Calio Mary Hunter Wolf my beloved friend and mentor was on the original steering committee for the City Spirit Artists Grant and hired me with the 14 others after my interview. She was not only a Director but a committed friend and great help with applying for funds when we continued, with finding people to serve on the Board including her best friend Betty Kubler. Mary was also on many Boards and President of the center for Theater Techniques so this was a huge commitment. She decided not to be our first Pres when we incorporated, though we wished it. However, she convinced her dearest friend Betty Kubler to take it on along with her work with Longwharf and she was a real gift. But her commitment was total. We went out for dinner and she visited my home where we discussed the challenges we faced continuing over the years. Being a woman ahead of her time she certainly inspired me when facing conflicts with authority figures who challenged me along the way. She wore many hats, was perhaps one of the most loved persons in the New Haven Arts scene and had experiences in radio, theater, and live few could compare with. Martha Savage is organizing a traveling exhibition of her life which was an extra ordinary for sure.
