"New Haven’s 350th-anniversary festival director, Bob Gregson commissioned local artist Bev Richey for the festival's official birthday cake. Richey’s "A-mazing Bureaucratic Birthday Cake serving the people 3500 pieces of free cake in a bureaucratic fashion," included artists, activists, lawyers, civic administrators, and others into the weeks of bureaucratic planning necessary to share thousands of pieces of cake over two days on the New Haven Green in June 1988." Artspace New Haven
On Wed. Nov 18th, 2020 these Local Art Collaborators gathered to discuss memories of their involvement with the "ABBC" during New Haven's vibrant decade of artistic collaboration.
Using new media during the Co-vid pandemic, 50 individuals participated in this live (now international) virtual panel and audience interactive event. In the "A-mazing Reunion" you can see how Jeff Burnett, Margaret Bodell, Roberta Chambers, Bitsie (Frances) Clark, Nikila Cole, Mimsie (Mary) Coleman, Tim Feresten, Bill Derry, Bob Gregson, John Landino, Ann Langdon, Beverly Richey, Johnes Ruta, Amy Seham, and Mary Shiffer reunite with each other to share memories, stories, and lessons with each other.
Watch how this group of seasoned collaborators re-engage with each other after decades of separation and attempt to connect with the live audience using this new interactive virtual media.
This Zoom ReUnion was sponsored by Artspace New Haven in coordination with the exhibition Who Govern's? (on exhibit through Dec 12th, 2020) curated by Frank Mitchell.
